Glow Guide

Prep

Day Before
  • Complete All Beauty Treatments – Facials, massages, waxing, and other spa treatments should be done at least one day before your tan—spray tanning should always be your final beauty step.
  • Discontinue Non-Sunless-Friendly Products – Stop using products like Retinol, Retin-A, chemical peels, and skin adhesives, as they can interfere with your tan’s development.
  • Wax and Shave – Waxing should be done at least 48 hours before your appointment. If shaving, use a razor without a moisture strip to avoid residue.
  • Exfoliate Your Entire Body – Use an oil-free exfoliating mitt to lightly exfoliate. Avoid scrubs or loofahs that contain oils, as they can leave a film on the skin.
  • Shower with the Right Products – Avoid bar soaps and cream-based washes like Dove, which can leave residue on the skin. Gel-based body wash is best. Finish your shower at least four hours before your appointment to allow your skin’s pH to balance.
  • Manicure and Pedicure – Schedule any nail services the day before your tan. If done afterward, soaking, oils, and acetone can cause uneven fading. If done on the same day, avoid lotions or oils your nail tech may apply.
  • Hydrate Inside and Out – Drink plenty of water and moisturize your skin both morning and night, especially after showering, to lock in hydration and avoid dry patches.
Day Of
  • No Barriers on the Skin – Do not apply any lotions, oils, deodorant, makeup, or perfume before your session, as these can prevent the tanning solution from absorbing properly.
  • Wear Loose, Dark Clothing – Choose loose-fitting, dark clothing and open-toed shoes. The bronzer may transfer to clothing but is water-soluble and will wash out easily.

After

Before Your Initial Rinse
  • Stay Dry – Avoid getting wet or sweating during your development window. That includes showers, workouts, and even pets licking your skin. Keep skin dry to prevent streaks or uneven patches.
  • Hands Off – Don’t touch your skin while your tan is developing. Transfer of solution to your hands can cause unwanted discoloration.
Your Initial Rinse
  • Rinse at the Right Time – Rinse at the designated time given during your appointment. Rinsing too early or too late can result in a tan that’s too light or too dark.
  • No Soap Yet – Use lukewarm water only—no soap, shampoo, or conditioner. Gently guide off the bronzer with your hands if needed. If you notice streaks after rinsing, hop back in and rinse again to remove any remaining bronzer.
  • Pat Dry – After rinsing, gently pat your skin dry with a towel. Do not rub.
  • Hold Off On Moisturizer – After your initial rinse, hold off on moisturizing until you reach the 24-hour mark. Your tan takes 24 hours from the time you are sprayed to fully develop.
The Days Following
  • Hydrate for Longevity – The more hydrated your skin is, the better your tan will last. We recommend purchasing our retail lotion in the studio. If choosing another product, be sure it’s free of mineral oils and artificial fragrances. CeraVe is a good over-the-counter option or something similar.
  • Shower Gently – Avoid loofahs, washcloths, or exfoliating tools. Wash only where needed (like underarms and private areas) using your hands to prevent premature fading.
  • Mind Your Activities – Limit long, hot showers, soaking in baths or hot tubs, swimming in pools or the ocean, and excessive sweating. These can all shorten the life of your tan. If in chlorine or salt water, try to rinse off your skin with fresh water as quickly as possible to extend the life of your tan.
  • Use Lotion SPF – Lotion SPF is preferred over aerosol spray, as aerosol sprays contain alcohol which can dry the skin and make your tan spotty.
